Ferdinando Romano schloß sein Bass-Diplom am Conservatorio L. Cherubini di Firenze ab, und studierte gleichzeitig bei Riccardo Donati und Alberto Bocini, zwei international anerkannten Solisten, die für das Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino tätig waren.
Im selben Konservatorium belegte er den Kurs für Komposition bei Paolo Furlani. Im Jahr 2015 begann er seine Masterstudien bei Enrico Fagone am Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, wo er drei Jahre lang lebte und die Möglichkeit hatte, seine Studien mit renommierten internationalen Solisten wie Klaus Stoll (Berliner Philarmoniker), Tim Cobb (Juiliard School, Manhattan School of Music), Michael Klinghoffer (Jerusalem Accademy), Christine Hoock (Mozarteum Salzburg), Diego Zecharies, Hans Roelofsen (Institute of the Arts, Niederlande) und vielen anderen zu vertiefen.

Ferdinando ist live und im Studio überaus aktiv, und arbeitet mit vielen Musikern der italienischen und internationalen Szene zusammen, wie Ralph Alessi, Enrico Rava, Robin Eubanks, Benny Golson, Glenn Ferris, Logan Richardson, Jerome Sabbagh, Simona Premazzi, Jon Boutellier, Allen Vizzuti, Michael Applebaum, Yuhan Su und vielen anderen.
Er spielte in zahlreicehn Clubs, Festivals und Konzertsälen in ganz Europa.

Totem feat. Ralph Alessi, Ferdinandos erstes Album als Leader, erschien am 24. April 2020 beim norwegischen Label Losen Records. Die Band besteht aus einigen der interessantesten Musiker und Improvisatoren der neuen italienischen Generation sowie dem großen ECM-Künstler Ralph Alessi.
Das Album wurde von Il Giornale della Musica als eine der besten April-Veröffentlichungen (Enrico Bettinello) und von Musica Jazz als Teil der Alben des Monats in der Juli-Ausgabe 2020 ausgewählt. Die Musik wurde in vielen Radiosendungen in Europa und den USA ausgestrahlt, insbesondere bei France Musique (FR), WDR (DE), BRF1 (Belgien), Radio Classica, Radio Popolare, Brooklyn Radio.

He got his doublebass diploma from the Conservatorio L. Cherubini di Firenze studying at the same time with Riccardo Donati and Alberto Bocini, two internationally acclaimed soloists that worked for the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. In the same Conservatorio he followed the course of Composition with Paolo Furlani. In 2015 he then got a Master in Performance with Enrico Fagone at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, where he lived for 3 years and had the chance to refine his studies with acclaimed international soloists like Klaus Stoll (Berliner Philarmoniker), Tim Cobb (Juiliard School, Manhattan School of Music), Michael Klinghoffer (Jerusalem Accademy), Christine Hoock (Mozarteum Salzburg), Diego Zecharies, Hans Roelofsen (Institute of the Arts, Netherland) and many more.

Ferdinando has an intense activity live and in studio, collaborating with many musicians of the Italian and international scene like Ralph Alessi, Enrico Rava, Robin Eubanks, Benny Golson, Glenn Ferris, Logan Richardson, Jerome Sabbagh, Simona Premazzi, Jon Boutellier, Allen Vizzuti, Michael Applebaum, Yuhan Su, Alan Benzie, Marton Yuhasz, Maurizio Giammarco, Nico Gori, Fabrizio Puglisi, Mauro Grossi, Andrea Melani, Bernardo Guerra, Cristiano Arcelli, Francesco Cusa, Carlo Atti, Andrea Beneventano, Francesco Lento, Simone Alessandrini, Valerio Vantaggio, Aldo Bassi, Achille Succi, Fabio Morgera, Antonino Siringo, Ettore Bonafè, Giulio Stracciati, Leonardo Radicchi, Giovanni Paolo Liguori and many more.

“Totem feat. Ralph Alessi”, his first album as a leader, came out on April 24 2020 for the Norwegian label Losen Records. The band is formed by some of the most interesting musicians and improvisers of the new Italian generation like Simone Alessandrini, Manuel Magrini, Tommaso Iacoviello, Nazareno Caputo, Giovanni Paolo Liguori and the great ECM artist Ralph Alessi on trumpet.
