Elisabeth Coudoux ist eine der markantesten Stimmen der europäischen Improvisationsszene. Die 1985 geborene Cellistin führte die Suche nach neuen Klängen und Spieltechniken vom klassischen Instrumentalstudium über den Jazz zur Neuen Musik und freien Improvisation. Sie studierte Violoncello an der Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden und setzte ihr Studium anschließend an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln im Fach Jazzcello fort.
Coudoux steht an der Schnittstelle unterschiedlicher musikalischer Genres: freie Improvisation, experimentelle Musik, Neue komponierte Musik und Jazz. Das Ausloten des Klangspektrums ist für sie eine sich stets ausweitende Suche nach der eigenen Stimme – aus der Analyse intuitiver Bewegungsmuster entstehen poetische Miniaturen, geräuschhafte Geschichten werden erzählt und unbekannte Klanglandschaften erkundet.
Neben eigenen Projekten, darunter das Emißatett, für das sie auch komponiert, arbeitet sie in interdisziplinären Projekten mit Tänzern, visuellen Künstlern und Schriftstellern zusammen. Sie ist zudem Mitglied des Ensembles Zeitkratzer sowie NICA-Stipendiatin und war langjährige Vorstandsmitglied von IMPAKT e.V.

The artists at this festival are not mere interpreters of existing works. They are creators who act in the complete freedom of their own improvisations.

Elisabeth Coudoux is one of the most distinctive voices on the European improvisation scene. Born in 1985, the cellist’s search for new sounds and playing techniques took her from classical instrumental studies to jazz, new music, and free improvisation. She studied violoncello at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and then continued her studies at the Cologne University of Music and Dance, specializing in jazz cello.
Coudoux stands at the intersection of different musical genres: free improvisation, experimental music, new composed music, and jazz. For her, exploring the sound spectrum is an ever-expanding search for her own voice—poetic miniatures emerge from the analysis of intuitive movement patterns, noisy stories are told, and unknown soundscapes are explored.
In addition to her own projects, including the Emißatett, for which she also composes, she collaborates in interdisciplinary projects with dancers, visual artists, and writers. She is also a member of the Zeitkratzer ensemble, a NICA scholarship holder, and was a long-time board member of IMPAKT e.V.
Coudoux can be seen at festivals and concert series worldwide, including the All Ears Festival, the Moers Festival, and the Météo Festival.

At the heart of his work is sound research on the prepared piano, which he has consistently treated as an extended sound instrument for decades – complemented by the use of analog synthesizers. His music moves fluidly between composition and improvisation, between silence and energy.
Zoubek was awarded the WDR Jazz Prize for Composition in 2020 and was a NICA scholarship holder at the European Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music. He has performed at the Jazzfest Berlin, the Moers Festival, and the Jazzfestival Saalfelden, among others, and has collaborated with musicians from all over Europe.

She began playing classical trombone at the age of nine before switching to jazz trombone in 2018. After completing her preliminary studies in her hometown of Stuttgart, she is now continuing her bachelor’s degree at the HfMT Cologne with Shannon Barnett.
Her stylistic spectrum ranges from freely improvised music to intimate duo and trio performances to larger ensembles and big bands. She was a member of the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra and played concerts in Lithuania with the European Broadcasting Union’s Euroradio Jazz Orchestra. Engagements have taken her to the WDR Big Band and renowned festivals such as Cologne Jazzweek.
The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung praises her as a “great new voice on the jazz trombone.” With her duo PLEXUS, she won the main prize at Jugend Jazzt and the renowned Biberacher Jazzpreis.

Marius Lamm is a versatile drummer, improvisational artist, composer, and producer from Cologne. Raised in Essen, he is now active in national and international ensembles on the modern, creative music scene and specializes in conceptual and free improvisation.
Musically socialized by punk, metal, and underground concerts, he completed his bachelor’s degree in jazz at ArtEZ Arnhem and his master’s degree at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. As a producer, he created his solo project FELLENBLECH and the EP VEATS—both self-produced. In addition, he works in an interdisciplinary manner, for example with the art project Tatraum Projekte Schmidt from Düsseldorf, which combines music, theater, and visual art.
