tread on the trail – unterwegs zwischen Jazz und Neuer Musik

In tread on the trail (zu deutsch: „sich auf eine Fährte begeben“ oder „einen Pfad beschreiten“) begibt sich das 13köpfige Ensemble consord, zusammen mit Matthias Muche (Posaune), auf den aufregenden musikalischen Weg vom zeitgenössischem Jazz der Komponist:innen Theresia Philipp und Matthias Muche (beide mit dem WDR Jazzpreis ausgezeichnet), über das titelgebenden Stück „tread on the trail“ vom Vordenker für demokratische Strukturen in der Musik und Minimal Music Legende Terrence „Terry“ Mitchell Riley, hin zur hochaktuellen Neuen Musik Matthias Krügers „le vide à perdre“, die den Musiker als Menschen ins Zentrum rückt.

Ohne Dirigat stellt sich consord unterwegs der Frage nach möglichen Organisationsformen eines großen Ensembles in unterschiedlichen musikalischen Genres und bricht übliche hierarchische Strukturen auf, mit dem Ziel, die Kompetenzen aller beteiligter Musiker:innen optimal zu bündeln.

tread on the trail – on the way between jazz and Neue Musik

In tread on the trail, the 13-member ensemble consord, together with Matthias Muche (trombone), embarks on an exciting musical journey from the contemporary jazz of the composer: inside Theresia Philipp and Matthias Muche (both awarded the WDR Jazz Prize), to the titular piece „tread on the trail“ by the pioneer for democratic structures in music and minimal music legend Terrence „Terry“ Mitchell Riley, to the highly topical new music of Matthias Krüger’s „le vide à perdre“, which puts the musician as a human being at the center.

Without a conductor, consord explores the possible forms of organization of a large ensemble in different musical genres and breaks up the usual hierarchical structures with the goal of optimally bundling the competencies of all musicians involved.
