Nach seinem Bigband-Album „Hive Mind“ kehrt Benjamin Schaefer mit seinem neuen Projekt „Stone Flowers“ zurück in die Welt der small groups. Das außergewöhnlich besetzte Quartett ist benannt nach - und soundmäßig inspiriert von - dem Album „Stone Flower“ von Antonio Carlos Jobim. Ausgehend von diesem Klangeindruck sowie den diversen Bedeutungen und Referenzen des Begriffs „Stone Flower“ hat Schaefer Eigenkompositionen und gelenkte Improvisationen entwickelt. Auch assoziative Bearbeitungen von Teilen der letzten Ballettmusik Sergei Prokofievs gehören zum Programm.

Following his big band album "Hive Mind“, pianist/ composer Benjamin Schaefer returns to the world of small groups with his new project "Stone Flowers". The extraordinary quartet is named after - and draws sonic inspiration from - the album "Stone Flower" by Antonio Carlos Jobim. Based on this sound impression as well as the various meanings and references of the term "Stone Flower", Schaefer has developed original compositions and guided improvisations. Associative arrangements of parts of Sergei Prokofiev's last ballet music are also part of the program.
