In 1920s, the fame of the Comedian Harmonists burned especially brightly: the six-strong ensemble thrilled German audiences with entertaining popular songs sung in perfect close harmony, including hits such as “Veronika, der Lenz ist da” and “Wochenend und Sonnenschein”. The Nazis’ seizure of power in 1933 placed increasing pressure on a group that was half Jewish. Their attempts to defy political repression would ultimately fail. The Comedian Harmonists split up in 1935 but their music lives on till this day.

Under the musical direction of Patrick Francis Chestnut, our ensemble of soloists will present a compered concert.
