We cordially invite families and their children to the Open Foyer of the Theater an der Ruhr on five different dates. Open Foyer means that we open up our common areas for families and redesign them especially for this purpose.

The result is an exciting and creative program in which children can try out their skills in a playful way.

Our theater café is open for adults at the same time and in the same place.

Open foyer, open schedule: you come and go as you please during the specified period.

Admission is free.

We look forward to seeing you!

The following programme is available for you to discover:

Sun, 28 September 2025, 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Black light theatre

Together, we will design a white stage set and paint it with bright neon colours. Under black light, the stage will come to life – everything will begin to glow mysteriously. What imaginative adventures can we discover there?

Sun, 19 October 2025, 2:30–5:00 p.m.

Interactive radio play

In the cosy theatre foyer, you can not only listen, but also actively participate in an exciting story. To make sure you don't miss a thing, please be at the Theater an der Ruhr at 2:30 p.m. sharp.

Sun, 21 December 2025, 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Musical theatre

We make our own instruments, discover new sounds, sing and create a colourful world of sound together. A musical interactive experience full of rhythm, voice and imagination.

Sun, 18 January 2026, 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Puppet theatre

Curtain up for big stories with little characters! Together we will make sock puppets and stick figures and discover the art of puppetry. Then we will bring our characters to life on small stages – and bring our own stories to life.

Sun, 15 February 2026, 2:30–5:00 p.m.

Carnival party

It's going to be colourful, loud and imaginative! Come in your favourite costume and transform yourself again and again – at our make-up station and with costume pieces from the theatre's collection.
