His image went around the world: in the midst of the Syrian civil war, a young man played the piano and sang in the destroyed streets of Yarmouk. Surrounded by rubble and ruins, the trained pianist Aeham Ahmad sent a message of hope with his music. Soon after, he had to leave Syria and now lives in Germany. Since then, he has played countless concerts in many European countries, recorded several albums, and published books.
Aeham Ahmad's music has remained an unwavering expression of hope and has developed into a multi-layered soundscape in which experiences of loss resonate alongside confidence. It combines European classical music with Arabic melodies and boundless improvisation.
Aeham Ahmad is now visiting the Theater an der Ruhr as part of a Café Wake Cup Special.
