A ‘sitcom-capable best-ager comedy’ with ‘bitter humour and expertise’: this is how Christine Dössel described Rebekka Kricheldorf's Bondi Beach in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. ‘The dialogue is fast-paced and sometimes pops like a slap in the face. Or simply like a good punchline.’ Together with a few other plays, it was on the longlist of the selection committee for the Mülheim Theatre Days 2024.

Ageing is an imposition!

That's what Zoe, Nico, Fiffy, Tristan and Dennis, whose friendship is more protracted than any relationship, think. After all, friends are chosen according to different criteria than partners. But after one milestone birthday follows the next, they start to feel like there's not much left. That time is running out to complete your bucket list. The party life of our youth has long since turned into weekends of leisurely hikes in Gore-Tex jackets. In addition, there are new excitements, such as forms for advance directives or funeral arrangements. Is a final, radical change of life worth it? Is it possible to combine the best of two opposing worlds, as practised by the dropouts on Australia's Bondi Beach, who combine asceticism and detox on all levels with carefree parties at the weekend?

The author Rebekka Kricheldorf, who has already been nominated five times for the Mülheim Theatre Days and is known for her witty, precise social satires, is a master at getting to the heart of questions about ageing - humorous and profound at the same time.
