For ENSEMBLE, director and artist Marlin de Haan and her team invite audiences to a happening on the stage of the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, situated at the intersection of theatre and backstage, event and action. For ENSEMBLE, director and artist Marlin de Haan and her team invite audiences to a happening on the stage of the Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, situated at the intersection of theatre and backstage, event and action. The familiar conventions between audience and performance in the theatre are to be explored and redefined through artistic means.
To develop the project, with the aim of engaging with as many diverse people as possible and gathering their perspectives on theatre operations, Marlin de Haan is moving into an inner-city high-rise complex in Mülheim. Her flat becomes a temporary meeting place where artistic, private and public concerns are discussed. Supplemented by actions in the urban space, the aim is to engage citizens as an audience and fellow participants, and to document shared interests, differences and distances. What opportunities for new alliances and partnerships can be found in the neighbourhood and through hospitality?

About Marlin de Haan
Marlin de Haan works at the intersection of visual and performing arts. She explores the tensions between bodies and objects in space and is interested in the possibilities and limitations of fields of action, modes of representation and narrative formats. Marlin de Haan stages plays, performances and films, designs sculptures, installations and spaces, and realises exhibitions and interactions in public, private and art spaces (including Urbane Künste Ruhr, FFT Düsseldorf, FWT Cologne, Museum Kurhaus Kleve, Bomontiada Old Istanbul, Manifesta 9 Genk/Belgium, Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, Kunstmuseum Bochum).
