Theater der erweiterten Realitäten
The possibilities of virtual reality and artificial intelligence challenge and even shift our usual boundaries of perception and representation. Artistic works that make use of these possibilities, investigate and sound them out, raise the question of what is real and genuine in a very special way. The works in the exhibition UN/GEWISSE BEGEGNUNGEN place a special focus on this coordinate system. They all revolve around forms and situations of encounter: with places of longing and cultural projections, with a counterpart, with oneself and with one's own body. From their own perspective, they allow us to surmise what might be hidden behind the surface of appearances, what takes place in secret and which desires and fantasies secretly characterise our experience of the respective events, impressions and phenomena, perhaps even our idea of something like reality.
Almost all of the works were created exclusively as part of the `Theatre of Augmented Realities` project for GEHEIMNIS 2 and can be experienced for the first time: Charlotte Triebu's project ‘AFK’ shows digitally read body images that are used to create avatars; in her interactive dance piece ‘kin_’ (in cooperation with MIREVI), you can explore in space how close you want to get to the digital images. In Alexander Schubert's video work ‘Portals’, doors open into an alternative, virtual nature, while the immersive VR journey ‘The Silence of the Forests’ by KGI takes us into the mystical German forest and the dark secrets of its history. In Tore Knabe's fascinating interactive VR AI installation ‘The Reverse Turing Test’, you meet four well-known personalities in an old-fashioned train compartment, with whom you can find out together who is human. In the further development of the VR work ‘Oneironautica III - Entfremdung’von Laurenz Ulrich x MIREVI, we float through an interactive dream space in which mysterious particle clouds condense into Kafka's parables.
The Theatre of Augmented Realities is a research and development project by the Theater an der Ruhr in collaboration with the Akademie für Theater und Digitalität and the MIREVI Lab at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences, funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of NEUE WEGE.
Δάσος (Wald)
Sound installation with various voices by Elisa Kühnl The wind blows through the smallest gap into the whole house. It whispers to itself. You don't really know. Should you follow it or not? Intimacy, trust and taboos in social structures are the basis of Elisa Kühnl's work. In addition to her purist vocal performances, she also works with the sounds of glass objects. She plays music in the formations Krap Huek, Nasssau and also solo. She has performed many times at the Theater an der Ruhr, most recently in `Die Bestimmer`.
With the voices of: Katharina Romanenko, Mirjam Berg, Carla Gesthuisen, Ella Sofie Posny, Sharon Latschinske, Friedemann Dupelius, Björn Castillano
Papillon Collection I
By Parastou Forouhar
The digitally created drawings of the Papillon Collection open up a highly explosive field of tension between beauty and horror. At second glance, the patterns of the eponymous butterflies reveal mutilated and tortured bodies - brutality concealed in a graceful form. The images thus make direct reference to the contrast between oppression and freedom that characterises contemporary reality in Iran. This reference in all its sharpness is characteristic of the works of the internationally renowned artist and political activist Parastou Forouhar.
