The organiser of this musical ‘The Jungle Book’ - the municipal singing and music school was founded in Regensburg over 100 years ago, in 1910. In the 1990s, the concept of singing classes and children's choirs for primary school children was developed - as a voluntary event within the school timetable. The children taking part in the annual musical theatre productions are recruited from the ranks of these singing classes - in 2025, the Jungle Book. Preparations for the musical include a full weekend of rehearsals with 100 to 150 children at the Habischried school hostel in the Bavarian Forest. The choir weekend would not have been possible without the involvement of a good two dozen young helpers from the older groups of the Cantemus choir (in the 15 to 18 age group) - not to mention the permanent teaching staff and numerous volunteers from the Regensburg music school. We were particularly impressed by this collaboration between several generations, who are all involved in choral projects, as well as the self-confidence with which the pupils from Regensburg's primary schools were able to explain why and for whom they are taking part in this singing and dancing project, how singing changes the way they think and feel - and the significance of the four performances of the musical, each with an audience of 2500, in a city with a population of just 160,000.
