The "Sessel" (armchair) comes

Half a century ago, the „SESSEL" (armchair) appeared for the first time in Aachen.
It was in the fields around the Schneeberg, made himself known to some Aachen art lovers and accepted their invitation to the city,
which duly welcomed him.
The cathedral, town hall and Elisenbrunnen fountain were three outstanding stops on the SESSEL's spectacular program of visits.

With a festive banquet in the ballroom of the former
Ludwig Collection and spectacular action projections, the first SESSEL visit to the old imperial city came to an end.

In the years that followed, astonishing phenomena of the special
SESSEL-Art
in the Aachen region;
Gradually, the events took on a bluish character.
Accordingly, the Aachen action group BLAUSTICH
to accompany the SESSEL-Happenings
and to document them professionally.
That was in the last century!
Around the turn of the millennium
the SESSEL
once again signaled to its loyal art lovers in Aachen that the year 2000 would be marked by a summer visit to Charlemagne's throne city.

and to express its playful attachment to old and new stately seats and local residences.
The “size” of the
SESSEL expression
may have been borrowed from minimal art at the time, but the proximity of the
SESSEL appearance
to the Karlsthron was given the greatest possible importance.
In accordance with this wish, the BLAUSTICH group, in friendly cooperation with the Atelierhaus-Verein Aachen (AHA)
to the “Minimal-SESSEL-Reception 2000”
on August 16, 2000 in the vicinity of Aachen Cathedral. The showcase exhibition ‘The armchair is coming back’ was opened with a happening.
One month later, on September 16, 2000, the “Minimal-SESSEL” appeared again at an exhibition opening in the art-Pütz gallery in Montzen.
On this evening, an excerpt from the original slide story “Der Sessel kommt” from 1975 was also shown; for the first time in combination with the original 16-mm film documentation of the armchair parade through Aachen's city center. The accompanying performance and presentation were videographed by me at the time. The slide and film material has only been digitized and prepared for further processing since 2018.
