To mark the start of the exhibition “Augenweide” (A feast for the eyes) by the artist Christa Schumacher, we are very pleased to welcome a young talent to the music studio: the pianist Shuri Soga!
Shuri Soga was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1999. He moved to Vienna at the age of 15, where he received lessons from Prof Elisabeth Dvorak-Weisshaar and completed his IB diploma at an international school.
In the course of his musical career, he has been involved in important projects, including the presentation of the new model of the Steinway grand piano with recording system ‘Spirio’, together with two other pianists, at the Vienna Konzerthaus and the library concert in Raiding (Austria), which was organised by the Franz Liszt Society. He presented the programme ‘Poetic Language – Liszt’s “speaking” piano music’ with two grand pianos from different eras, Erard and Bösendorfer. In June 2024, he gave a successful concert in Düsseldorf in which he performed G. Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F with the Heinrich Heine Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Federico Ferrari. Since 2023, he has been a scholarship holder of ‘Live Music Now’ in Vienna and performs regularly in various institutions.
To date, he has been honoured with several awards at various competitions, including 1st prize at the Franz Liszt Center International Piano Competition (Spain), sole 1st prize at the International Competition ‘Giovani Musicisti – Città di Treviso’ (Italy) and 3rd prize (with no 1st and 2nd prizes awarded) at the International Béla Bartók Piano Competition in Graz (Austria).
He took part in masterclasses with Prof. Christian A. Pohl, Prof. Markus Schirmer, Prof. Ya-Fei Chuang, Prof. Pavel Gililov, Alexei Volodin and Prof. Bernd Goezke.
After completing his bachelor’s degree in piano with Prof. Peter Jósza at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria), he is now continuing his master’s studies with Prof. Sheila Arnold at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
You can look forward to a concert with works by Franz Schubert, Louise Farrenc and Robert Schumann.
