Dear friends of music and art,
We are delighted to celebrate the New Year together with Berlin artist Axel Bunt, whose vivid and colourful works transport us into humorous and cheeky visual worlds, as the exhibition and picture title “Zukkajöre” suggests. He writes about his art:
I think painters create pictures because they want to show something that moves them and hope that this intention will be recognised by the viewer or that it will evoke a feeling, a mood or perhaps the viewer’s own interpretation of what they see. In the best case scenario, what is seen remains in the memory and stimulates the viewer to form their own thoughts.
What one wants to show naturally depends on many different factors and can change. Or there may be a basic direction that one pursues, but from time to time one also tries out other things.
My primary concern, which does not exclude branching out in other directions, is always about affirming life. In my view, optimism is essential, especially in these times, because it is the only way to change things you don’t like while appreciating what you do like and being able to accept and value life as it is.
When viewers look at my work, I would be delighted if I could contribute – even if only for a moment – to opening up this life-affirming perspective as they view my relief paintings. Full of vitality, with an optimistic spark, perhaps with a wink here and there, sometimes fantastical, always bright, colourful, and preferably a little bit shiny.
